BWI Lockdown: Bomb Threat at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Airport

BALTIMORE — A bomb threat investigation caused significant disruptions at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Friday afternoon, prompting the suspension of light rail service, temporary roadway closures, and delays for travelers.

Airport officials confirmed that screening at Security Checkpoint D/E was temporarily suspended due to an ongoing law enforcement investigation. Additionally, the inbound terminal roadway was closed as authorities assessed the situation.

The Maryland Transit Administration reported that light rail service to BWI Airport was suspended, while heavy traffic delays were observed throughout the airport loop. By mid-afternoon, traffic approaching the terminal had come to a standstill, leading some travelers to exit their vehicles and walk toward the terminal with their luggage.

Fire trucks and emergency responders were seen on the airport tarmac around 3:40 p.m., further signaling an active response. The nature of the threat and whether any devices were located had not been disclosed as of Friday evening.

Airport and law enforcement officials emphasized that the investigation was ongoing and urged travelers to remain patient and follow the instructions from the authorities on the scene.

Passengers were advised to monitor airline communications for flight updates and allow extra time for travel while the investigation continues.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
